The Ritual and Its Weight

The Matsya Homa is a fire rite offered to Matsya, the fish form Vishnu took when the great deluge covered the world. In that flood the Vedas were lost and Manu's boat had nowhere to go. Matsya appeared, took the rope, and drew the boat safely across water that had no shore. That is the image the homa holds. You are not asking for a shortcut. You are asking for a guide through a stretch where the landmarks have gone under.

Devotees turn to the matsya homam when things stop moving — a file that never clears, an approval that never arrives, a plan that stalls a step before completion. The tradition treats such blockage as obstruction that has settled in the path rather than in the person. Ghee, samidha and the Matsya mantra are offered into the consecrated fire to loosen it. The rite is prescribed for clearing the way; the walking is still yours to do.

ॐ मत्स्यरूपाय विद्महे जलचराय धीमहि । तन्नो मत्स्यः प्रचोदयात् ॥ We contemplate the one who took the form of the fish and meditate upon the dweller of the waters; may that Matsya guide and impel us forward.

Why Devotees Book This

The Matsya Homa is offered in the tradition for these purposes. Book it as an act of faith, not as a transaction.

Movement in stalled matters

Offered when work that should have closed months ago is still sitting open, and no one can say why.

Clearing repeated delays

For the pattern where each step forward is followed by a postponement — dates that shift, papers that return.

Safe passage through uncertainty

Matsya is invoked as the one who steers through waters with no visible shore, when you cannot see the next landmark.

Support for new beginnings

Traditionally sought before starting a venture, a course or a move, so the path opens rather than closes.

Steadying the mind under pressure

The rite is prescribed to settle the restlessness that long waiting brings, and to restore patience and clarity.

Protection of effort already made

For work you have poured years into, offered so that what you have built is not lost while the waters are high.

Sacred timing

The most auspicious days for a Matsya Homa

These are the windows the tradition favours for the Matsya Homa.

Matsya Jayanti — Chaitra Shukla Tritiya

The day marking Matsya's appearance. The most fitting occasion in the year for this homa.

Shravana and Revati nakshatras

Shravana belongs to Vishnu; Revati carries the sign of the fish. Both are held auspicious for invoking Matsya.

Ekadashi and Dwadashi tithis

Vishnu's own tithis, kept for offerings to any of his avatars, and favoured when the aim is clearing obstruction.

Thursday morning, Brahma Muhurta onward

Guru's day suits rites for opening blocked paths. The fire is kindled in the early hours and the offerings follow.

You do not need to wait for one of these days. Whenever you book, our astrologers calculate the muhurta from your own birth chart — a date chosen for you personally, which tradition regards as more precise than a calendar date chosen for everyone. If you would like the homa on one of the days above, tell us at checkout and we will fix the muhurta within it.

What you receive

The sealing of the Matsya Yantra

When your homa concludes, the yantra that stood in the fire is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which the energies raised in a ritual are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — for you and up to five family members.

Live telecast

Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request an unlisted telecast at checkout.

Free energised Matsya Yantra, sealed in a silver amulet

Consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. Immediately afterwards it is rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet by Agamic rite, locking those energies within, and shipped to you with your prasadam.

Prasadam, shipped free

Sacred vibhuti, sandalwood powder & kumkum from your fire — delivered to any country.

Yantra Pujas inside our consecrated sanctum

48-Day Anushthan (optional) — daily pujas for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches. Performed in our consecrated sanctum at the Yagna Ashram.

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and your family, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link, which does not appear on our channel or in search, though anyone who has the link can watch it and share it.

We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.

After it arrives

How to wear your energised Matsya Yantra

The energised yantra is carefully rolled and sealed inside a sacred silver amulet before shipping. Wearing it is itself a small ritual.

01

Your auspicious time to wear it

Wear it for the first time on a Thursday, between 6.30 and 7.30 in the morning. Bathe first, place the yantra on your pooja altar and offer your prayers, then wear it around your neck or your waist, on a red or black thread or a silver chain.

02

At a funeral

Take the yantra off before you attend a funeral.

03

Purify the amulet

Whenever the yantra has been taken off, or if it was worn at a funeral, dip it in raw milk or Ganga jal, show it incense, dhoop or attar (perfume), and then wear it again.

04

Keep the energy intact

You may repeat this energising once a week or once a month.

Who is invoked

Matsya

First among the ten avatars of Vishnu, he takes the form of a great fish moving through water that has covered the world. Images show him as a fish, or as half-man and half-fish, four-armed, bearing conch and discus, rising from the flood. The Bhagavata Purana and the Matsya Purana tell how he warned Manu of the deluge, guided his boat by a rope tied to his horn, and recovered the Vedas lost in the waters. In that account he is the one who holds knowledge safe when the familiar world goes under, and the pilot who finds a course where no shore is visible. Devotees turn to this form when a path has closed, when direction is lost, and when a matter must be carried across a stretch that cannot be walked.

In this homa that grace is invoked through fire, with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

The Matsya Homa is a Vedic fire ritual offered to Matsya, the fish avatar in which Vishnu rescued the Vedas and drew Manu's boat through the great flood. Its significance lies in that act of passage — Matsya is invoked as the one who moves ahead when the way is submerged. The matsya homam is therefore performed for obstruction removal: for delays, blockages and stretches where progress has simply stopped.
The tradition prescribes this homa for movement in stalled matters, relief from repeated delays, safe passage through uncertain periods, an auspicious start to new ventures, and steadiness of mind through long waiting. It is offered as worship and surrender. No rite guarantees an outcome; what the homa does is place your situation before Matsya with the discipline the shastras lay down.
Anyone facing persistent obstruction may have the matsya homa performed on their behalf — someone whose approvals never clear, whose venture keeps stalling, whose plans keep sliding. Families offer it before beginning something new, and for a member going through a difficult passage. There is no restriction of age, gender or nationality. At AstroBhava, qualified priests perform it for you at our Yagna Ashram; you need not travel or attend.
Matsya Jayanti, on Chaitra Shukla Tritiya, is the foremost day. Shravana and Revati nakshatras, Ekadashi and Dwadashi tithis, and Thursday mornings from Brahma Muhurta are also held auspicious. Once you book, our priests read your birth details against the panchanga and fix the muhurat, then confirm the date and time with you before the fire is kindled.
The priests begin with achamana, sankalpa in your name, gotra and nakshatra, and Ganapati puja. The kunda is prepared and Agni invoked. Matsya is installed and worshipped with shodashopachara. The Matsya mantra is then chanted with ahutis of ghee, samidha, havan samagri, rice, sesame, honey and seasonal offerings. Purnahuti closes the fire, followed by aarti and prasadam. All samagri is arranged by us at the ashram.
Book online from any country on this page. Send your name, gotra and birth star along with your sankalpa. Our priests select the muhurat and confirm it with you. On the day, the homa is telecast live to you wherever you are, and the prasadam and an energised Matsya Yantra are couriered to your address worldwide at no extra cost.
Our silver amulets are specially made for everyday wear: copper is added to the silver to make them more durable. With regular use, the amulet may turn black, reddish or brown as it is exposed to heat and reacts with the chemicals in cosmetics. Wipe it regularly with a soft, dry cotton cloth, keep perfume and cosmetics away from it, and clean it by rubbing it gently with a pinch of vibhuti (sacred ash). Every six months, polish it with cotton dipped in a silver cleaner, but never soak or dip the amulet itself. Never open it, as the energies of the yantra are sealed inside. If it is ever damaged, send it back to us, not to a jeweller.
